Dr. Dre continues to give back to his hometown of Compton! Over the weekend, the producer and entrepreneur pledged to donate $10 MILLION to Compton High School’s new performing arts complex!
“My goal is to provide kids with the kind of tools and learning they deserve,” Dre said in a statement to The LA Times. “The performing arts center will be a place for young people to be creative in a way that will help further their education and positively define their future.”
“The support that Dre has shown to Compton over the years is unwavering and we are so excited that we will now be home to one of the greatest performing arts centers in the country,” added Satra Zurita, president of Compton Unified’s governing board of trustees.
Construction on the building will begin in 2020, with the complex including state-of-the-art equipment and technology including digital media production facilities and a theater that seats 1,200. Maybe Dr. Dre and some other artists from the area will even drop in to work with some of these kids as well! Hopefully, the center will have a great impact on not only the students there, but the city of Compton as a whole.
The performing arts center will not only be a hub for the students of the high school but for the entire Compton community.
