Liam Payne, Emeli Sandé, and so many more UK artists came together to record a powerful charity single dedicated to the victims of the horrific Grenfell Tower fire.
With the single orchestrated by Simon Cowell, the group of artists along with 300 locals covered “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” with some artists take an individual line and others singing in the background. Other artists for the track included Craig David, Dua Lipa, Geri Halliwell, Jessie J, Leona Lewis, Louis Tomlinson, Rita Ora, The Who, and rapper Stormzy, who gave a great rap intro to the song.
Simon, who doesn’t live too far away from the Grenfell Tower building, was emotional seeing the coverage about the blaze, which happened on June 14. “I felt how everyone felt when they saw the news. I was angry, upset, thinking what the hell do you do?” he said in an interview. Driving to see the tower for himself, he felt compelled to do something. “You kind of think, what can I do? Do you donate some money and I was thinking, well maybe we could do a little more than that and that’s how the record came about.”
So he and his team made calls around and artists came in droves to support the single. Simon himself even donated 100,000 pounds to the Artists for Grenfell fundraiser, which is supporting the Grenfell victims and survivors.
