Ashley Biden has combined her love of fashion and her commitment to social justice with a new charitable collaboration!
The daughter of Joe and Jill Biden has partnered with brand Gilt for a special hoodie collection for charity. Proceeds from the hoodies will go towards Ashley’s newly launched organization Livelihood Inc, a “socially and ethically conscious apparel company that’s inspired by extraordinary everyday people.” Per the Livelihood website, “a portion of the proceeds from the ongoing sale, and 100% of the profits from the launch, will be deposited on a quarterly basis into a community foundation to be accessed by residents in two under-resourced neighborhoods: Riverside in Wilmington, DE, and Washington, D.C.’s Anacostia.”
It’s definitely a collab that Ashley, who also runs the Delaware Center for Justice, is excited about! “I was looking for a partner that could help me a develop a collection of hoodies that were all designed, sourced and produced here in the United States,” Ashley said to PeopleStyle. “One of the biggest things that Livelihood encourages is getting involved locally.”
“We do all these exclusive collaborations where we bring together fashion and philanthropy,” Gilt and Saks Off 5th President Jonathan Greller added.“That’s exactly what we stand for and we thought that this collaboration could be a meaningful way to unite Gilt expertise in design, production, e-commerce with Ashley’s dedication to communities in need.”
The hoodies, which include styles for women and kids as well as unisex styles, go for $79-99. They were revealed at a New York Fashion Week kick-off party last week, as Ashley stood by her parents. Former VP Biden was proud to have his first zip up hoodie from his daughter, saying he couldn’t think of a “better one” to wear. “I’ve always believed that when given a fair shot, ordinary people can do extraordinary things,” he shared at the event. “You get dressed every day — if you’re using that opportunity to support your community and your neighbors, you’re helping give people a fair shot to do something extraordinary with their lives.”
It’s super cool that Ashley has created this line! Hopefully it raises a lot of money for her organization, and will help to impact underserved communities. Check out more about the line and Ashley’s work from her interview with People Style.
