Viola Davis recently teamed up with the Vaseline Healing Project for a health fair in her own community!
Raised in Central Falls, RI, the actress went back to her hometown on October 8 to host a one-day health fair with Vaseline, something that meant a lot to her as she grew up with limited funds and access to health care herself.
“They did a free health fair and training. They gave flu shots, blood pressure checks, there was a dermatologist on site. They had food, face painting. It was basically a big health fair because Central Falls is a community [that] lives on or below the poverty line and one out of three people in Central Falls complain of fair to poor health,” Viola told PEOPLE. “It was just a beautiful thing. It wasn’t just a time for everyone to gather together, but just really bring that whole message of healing to this community that’s very challenged.”
The folks over Vaseline have worked tirelessly in partnership with organization Direct Relief to provide their own products, as well as medical supplies, dermatological care, and health worker training to help five million people across the world by 2020. With that goal in mind, Viola, who grew up using Vaseline products, said that working with the brand was a “no-brainer.”
From the sound of it, the health care was a huge success for Viola’s hometown! It’s really wonderful that she was able to use that connection to provide health assessments for those in her own community.
