Queen Latifah to Be Honored with Prince Rainier III Award from the Princess Grace Foundation
Queen Latifah will be honored for not only her work in entertainment, but also her charity ventures by the Princess Grace Foundation!
The actress and artist will receive her award at the Princess Grace Awards Gala in New York on October 24 at Cipriani 25 Broadway. The Prince Rainier III Award shines a light on a “leader in the Arts whose own accomplishments are coupled with demonstrated service to their community.” That’s definitely fitting for Queen! In addition to the award, Queen Latifah will be able to grant $25,000 to the charity of her choice, and she was receive a special sculpture by artist Alex Soldier.
“We are privileged to present this year’s Prince Rainier lll Award to Queen Latifah. She has demonstrated a devotion to helping others throughout her illustrious career as an award-winning actress, musician, and producer,” said HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco. “Her deep commitment to AIDS and cancer research and to programs that help the hungry, youth, women and LGBTQ community have made a difference in the lives of so many.”
The Princess Grace Foundation, in honor of Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco, finds and helps rising talent in theater, dance, and film, awarding grants through scholarships, apprenticeships, and fellowships. Since the foundation was founded back in 1984, nearly 800 recipients have been awarded more than $13 million!
Past recipients of this prestigious award includes some big names like Julie Andrews, Glenn Close, Denzel and Pauletta Washington, Cicely Tyson, Dick Van Dyke, and more! It’s great that Queen Latifah will be added to this list. She’s done so much throughout her entire career, giving back to others along the way. Definitely well-deserved!
