Writer and feminist speaker Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is the face of a new beauty campaign to empower women even through makeup!
British beauty brand, Boots No7, revealed its latest campaign, “READY to Speak Up,” which serves to show others that the beauty of women is more than just about how they look. “Women use cosmetics to be ready for something: to show up, speak up, and make an impact in their world in their own way,” the company said in a statement to Mashable.
Chimamanda herself loves makeup, and doesn’t think that that takes away from her being a feminist at all. “I love makeup and its wonderful possibilities for temporary transformation. And I also love my face after I wash it all off. There is something exquisitely enjoyable about seeing yourself with a self-made new look,” the novelist said to Mashable. “And for me that look is deeply personal. It isn’t about what is in fashion or what the rules are supposed to be. It’s about what I like. What makes me want to smile when I look in the mirror. What makes me feel slightly better on a dull day. What makes me comfortable.”
Chimamanda looks stunning in the ad, but it’s the message behind the ad that is most encouraging. I look at like this, ladies. Our make up is like war paint as we get ready to tackle whatever life throws our way as we set out to make our mark! It’s really cool that Chimamanda is a part of this campaign over in the UK!
