Fourth graders at a Des Moines elementary school got some big news recently.

“Hi — I’m Ashton Kutcher, and I’m funding all the classroom projects in the state of Iowa.”

The Iowa native Hollywood actor “flash funded” more than 100 DonorsChoose.org classroom projects in Iowa. Teachers set up accounts to help fund classroom projects or get supplies. In Iowa 651 projects totaling more than $446,000 have been funded. Those projects have helped 56,000 students during the 2015-2016 school year so far.

Kutcher specifically helped support 131 projects at 100 schools in Iowa.

The movement is all part of the #BestSchoolDay initiative. More than 60 celebrities, business leaders and athletes all participated across the country to flash fund the accounts. A total of $14 million was committed to classrooms across the country Thursday to help fund 12,000 projects.

Jackson Elementary School in Des Moines had several projects funded totaling nearly $3,500.

“For him to step up and use his own resources to back that, it honestly blew me away, I was a little speechless,” says fourth-grade teacher Sandy Kirkman.

Kirkman’s “Wonder Robots” project totaling $1,335 was one that Kutcher funded. Her classroom will now be able to buy eight robots that help students with coding skills across multiple platforms.

“It’s hooking science, engineering, and technology together and it has proven to be endless possibilities,” says Kirkman.

Kutcher also released a video sharing how Iowa Schools helped him become the person he is today.

I’ve always been a fan of Kutcher. How cool of him to continue to give back to the state that he was raised. Kudos to Kutcher!

  1. That’s so awesome. It’s great to see celebs giving back. I love that he funded teachers so that that money goes back into the children and their educations 🙂
