Lupe Fiasco has started a non-profit to assist budding entrepreneurs!
According to Entertainment Weekly, the rapper has teamed up with Waze entrepreneur Di-Ann Eisnor to launch Neighborhood Start Fund, which aims to “turn ideas into start-ups” by giving guidance and resources to entrepreneurs from under-served areas.
The two will travel to neighborhoods all over the US to host “idea competitions,” where people pitch their ideas to judges from food, retail, entertainment, and technology industries, much like Shark Tank. Winners from the first competition (which will be held in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Brownsville) will be given $5,000 to turn their ideas into prototypes. “We want to turn every neighborhood fund into a local micro-economic engine,” a statement on the fund’s website reads.
This is definitely a great opportunity! Kudos to Lupe and Di-Ann for kicking off this idea!
