This weekend, Washington Wizards star John Wall was spotted giving back to the kids of his community, giving away backpacks and school supplies as the school year quickly approaches.

According to WTOP, John met up with 300 students in grades three through eight at the Boys and Girls Club in Southeast DC, stressing the importance of education to them. “Just to be a successful woman or man in this world, you always want to have an education or degree to fall back on, so that’s one of the most important things I want to do and preach to these kids,” he said. “These kids might be excited to see me but I’m more excited to see them. They put a bigger smile on my face.”

On Friday, John also gave away backpacks and school supplies to kids in his hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina. This is his second year of providing back to school gifts to students. “I want to give back to kids and families that are less fortunate. I’ve been in that situation before,” he said.

  1. This is great to hear. I wish more celebs would do things like this. They have so much and although they don’t owe anything, to anyone it shows what kind of person they are and is just really nice to hear.

  2. That’s amazing! It saddens me that so many families in this great country need this kind of assistance (the local line for our backpack giveaway was more than a 2 hour wait! such high demand!) but it’s heart warming to know that people like John Walls are there to help fill that need!

  3. Kudos to John Wall! It is so heartwarming to see people who never forget their past and are doing what they can to help others live better lives. The backpacks and school supplies donation was very generous of him.

  4. This is a great way to give back to the community. We have a program where we fill up a bus full of backpacks that are donated full of back to school supplies.

  5. I just love it when celebrities step-in & try their best in doing something to give back to society. Backpacks are going to be so helpful for the students & I am pretty sure John Wall could have inspired many right away.
