Ava DuVernay Will Receive Freedom Award from the National Civil Rights Museum

It has been announced that director Ava DuVernay will receive the Freedom Award from the National Civil Rights Museum!

According to AL.com, Ava will be honored along with activist and educator Ruby Bridges-Hall and civil rights movement organizer and Freedom Rides participant Joan Trumpauer Mulholland. The ceremony will take place on October 22.

Ava is definitely deserving receiving this huge honor! In addition to directing the successful and moving, Civil Rights Movement-era film Selma, she has stood tall with the recent Black Lives Matter movement, sparking much needed discussion in this country. Congratulations to her!
