Russell Simmons, along with Dave Chappelle, Gayle King, and other celebs, was in attendance at the 16th annual Art for Life Benefit, hosted to bring arts programming to inner city youth.
According to Look To The Stars, the benefit, which was held at Fairview Farms in Bridgehampton, was held in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation. The event raised more than $1.19 million to support the cause.
Hosted by Russell himself, Danny Simmons, and Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons, all c0-founders of the organization, the event was also emceed by Soledad O’Brien. Other celebrity guests included Angela Simmons, JoJo Simmons, Michaela and Simon de Pury, Ava DuVernay, and Wangechi Mutu. The Roaring 20s-themed event featured music by DJ M.O.S. and special performances by Bell Biv Devoe and Elle Varner.
According to Billboard, President Obama sent a personal letter supporting the foundation, which was read by Soledad. “For two decades the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation has empowered young Americans with opportunities to explore their creativity and express themselves through art. Our nation’s daughters are future doers and change makers and your efforts are helping them unlock their greatest potential so they can reach for bold ideas and bright futures,” the president said.
