Miley Cyrus was honored this week at amfAR‘s sixth annual Inspiration Gala for their work in the fight against AIDS!
According to Yahoo News, Miley went to the event with former contestant of The Glee Project, Tyler Ford, who identifies as agender. The singer has been an active advocate for the LGBTQ community, and most recently started a campaign on Instagram where posts photos of people across the gender spectrum. She tags the pics with the hashtag #InstaPride.
“It’s really fun to be in the company of Miley Cyrus,” Andy Cohen, who was also honored at the event on Tuesday, said. ”Our names have never been spoken in the same sentence so I’m honored tonight. She’s an original and she’s a fighter and she speaks to a whole, new generation.”
Transgender model Andreja Pejic also gave Miley props for her work. “I think she is using her celebrity in a positive way and to … create some change,” Andreja said. “It’s nice to see and I don’t think a lot of celebrities do that. … She’s a very genuine person and you can definitely see that she’s very excited for this opportunity and the charity and so it’s really amazing to see.”
amFAR focuses on the support of AIDS research and HIV prevention and education. The Inspiration Gala itself included a runway show, an awards presentation and a special performance by Mary J. Blige. I would’ve loved to have been there! Congrats to Miley for being recognized for her work!
