VSP #EyeGiveBack: Giving The Gift Of Sight

Did you know one in four children has an undiagnosed vision problem? Right now when you purchase individual vision insurance from VSP Direct™ as a gift, a child in need receives a free eye exam and glasses. That means when you give the Gift of Sight from VSP, you give twice. Find out more at www.givevspdirect.com/eyegiveback. Thanks to VSP for sponsoring this post.

One of the greatest things I know I take for granted is my eyesight. It’s just there. I’m able to afford eyeglasses, contacts and my yearly eye exams.

Exhibit 1: I get to look at this beautiful face every day.

Exhibit 2: I wouldn’t be able to experience the beauty of nature.

Without my sight I would not have been able to see and experience the beauty of the things that I have.. I have been wearing glasses since I was small. I was able to get my eyes checked and get glasses put on my face when I was small. Unfortunately not all children get their eyes checked and taken care of.

Can you believe that one in four children has an undetected vision problem?  By age five all children should have completed three eye exams, but 76% of kids are still not meeting that benchmark. Ten million American students have vision conditions that can impact learning. An annual comprehensive eye exam can ensure that correctable visual problems don’t become permanent.

To help students see their full potential, VSP® Vision Care, the largest not-for-profit vision benefits and services company in the U.S., has launched #EyeGiveBack. Right now when you give the Gift of Sight, you give twice. When you purchase a vision insurance plan as a gift through December 31, 2015*, VSP will donate an eye exam and glasses to a child in need, up to a total retail value of over $115,000.

Unfortunately not all adults can afford vision care either and when I found out I could give anyone a gift of vision care, I was so excited to give to someone in my family who can’t afford it.

My sister owns her own business, and unfortunately because she is self-employed she doesn’t have the access to benefits like insurance like many of us get with our employers. Insurance is simply way too expensive for my sister to afford and that is why VSP individual vision insurance plans make it such a great gift idea for someone like my sister.

I called my sister and her boyfriend on a Skype call and had him “in” on the surprise with camera in tow. When I called and told her the news that she could now finally go and get her eyes checked and glasses if she needed, this was her reaction:

#EyeGiveBack is part of the VSP Direct™ commitment to building a better future for children in need. We’re in the business of helping people see, and your individual plan purchase means free eye exams and glasses to a child in need, up to a total retail value over $115,000.

VSP believes improving your life begins with investing in your health, and with good vision, anything is possible. Right now through December 31, 2015, every VSP Direct™ individual plan purchased as a gift for someone else helps children in need. To see FAQs for #EyeGiveBack, visit this site: HERE.

I’m grateful for my sight and all the lovely things my eyes enable me to see. Help bring crisp, clear vision to those who need it.
