According to Look To The Stars, the GLSEN Respect Awards, which serves as the leading national education organiztion focused on ensuring safe and affirming schools for all students, to be held on Monday, June 1 in New York (another awards will held on the West Coast in Los Angeles). The event honors students, educators, corporations, and other individuals who have made an impact on LGBT youth specifically. Matthew himself is being honored with the Inspiration Award for his role as Will Schuester on Fox’s hit show Glee, which ended this year.
“As we celebrate GLSEN’s 25th anniversary, we are thrilled to honor these leaders in education, entertainment, business and philanthropy who have contributed to helping GLSEN realize our vision of a world where every child learns to respect and accept all people,” said Dr. Eliza Byard, GLSEN’s Executive Director. “Matthew Morrison’s portrayal of Mr. Schuester on ‘Glee’ has been a shining example of the vital role a supportive educator can have in creating an affirming, positive and supportive school culture for LGBT students.
Other honorees for the night will include Jon Stryker, Johnson & Johnson, teacher Desiree Raught and the Nixa High School Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA).
It’s awesome that Matthew is being honored for his work! I loved him on Glee, and believe the show really helped to bring awareness and teach respect of not only the LGBT community, but of different cultures overall. Congrats to him and the other nominees!
