Demi Lovato is encouraging us all to be vocal about mental health!
According to Look To The Stars, the singer joined Sunovion Pharmaceuticals Inc. and mental health advocacy organizations for the launch of the Be Vocal: Speak Up for Mental Health initiative! Be Vocal was created to encourage those dealing with mental health issues to speak up about it all with family, friends, and assisting professionals , and for us as a whole to speak up to bring awareness to mental health in America.
“Over time, I’ve learned to live well with bipolar disorder, but for me, the key is speaking up and being open and honest about how I’m feeling with my family, friends and health care professionals,” Demi said. “Through Be Vocal, we want to help others speak up as part of their own effort to live well and in support of the mental health community.”
Other organizations participating in this campaign include Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, The JED Foundation, Mental Health America, the National Alliance on Mental Illness and the National Council for Behavioral Health.
Approximately 44 million adults (1 in 5 individuals) are affected by a mental health condition in the U.S. Mental health is very often an issue that is brushed under the rug and not taken seriously, which pushes people dealing with problems away, feeling like they have nowhere to turn. The best way to deal with it all, I believe, is to confront it head on, and that starts with proper professional diagnoses, honest dialogue and creating better solutions for those that struggling with mental health. I commend Demi and the participating organizations for launching this initiative!
