Viola Davis will continue her role as ambassador for a second year with Hunger Is, a charitable program dedicated to fighting child hunger in America.
According to Look To The Stars, the actress, collaborating with The Safeway Foundation and the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), will be seen in an PSA campaign in select Safeway and Albertsons stores in April. At over 1,700 stores, shoppers will be able to give during in-store childhood hunger awareness fundraisers.
The program raised over $4.6 million in 2014, and this year’s campaign will attempt to encourage individuals and communities to come together to comp up with a long-lasting solution to this problem.
“I am honored to join the Safeway Foundation and the Entertainment Industry Foundation for a second year as we continue our mission to eradicate childhood hunger in America,” Viola said. “After an incredibly successful inaugural year with Hunger Is, I am grateful to keep the momentum in finding a solution to a problem that is too often forgotten. We have the opportunity to change so many young lives for the better and I look forward to the day when this is no longer an issue in our country.”
“We couldn’t be more proud to have Viola join us for a second year in our mission to end childhood hunger,” said Christy Duncan-Anderson, Executive Director of The Safeway Foundation. “The generous support from our customers during our first year has been astonishing and demonstrates the power of our communities. Childhood hunger is an issue that touches all of us, no matter where we’re from, and we are committed to changing that for good.”
All money raised will go to programs focused on ending child hunger, as well as improving health issues for hungry children and families. You can get more information at HungerIs.org!
Viola is an outstanding actress, and it really makes my heart glad that she is using her status to make a difference, especially towards child hunger in this country. It’s a serious issue that I hope we will be able to find a permanent solution to.
