Taylor Swift is sticking to her word! After announcing that she would donate all proceeds from her smash hit “Welcome To New York” to New York City public schools, the singer has already made her first donation.
According to E! News, Department of Education officials revealed that Taylor donated $50,000 the city’s public school system, and that this will not be a one-time donation. A spokesperson told e! that Taylor “will continue to donate the proceeds she receives from the sale of the single ‘Welcome to New York’ to NYC public schools.”
“We’re deeply appreciative of this kind gesture to donate her proceeds of the single ‘Welcome to New York’ to benefit NYC public schools,” said Devora Kaye, the press secretary for the Department of Education.
Taylor had first promised to donate the proceeds from the song during an appearance on The View back in October. “It’s selling really, really well,” she said of the hot track. “Which is good because I’m donating all my proceeds to New York City public schools.” Just one week after the release of “Welcome To New York,” Taylor was also named New York City’s welcome ambassador!
Since moving to NYC almost a year ago, Taylor has expressed how much love and appreciation she has for her new home. It makes perfect sense that she would give back here! I know that there are many schools that will benefit greatly from her generous donation. Kudos to Taylor!
