Rock band U2 has committed to support the Legacy of Hope Foundation in the organization’s efforts to build a new children’s hospital in Africa, which was one of Nelson Mandela‘s final wishes.

All the members of the group signed one of The Edge‘s acoustic guitars for the organization, which will be sold. Bono, a personal friend and ally of Nelson Mandela, inscribed the guitar with “There’s no them there’s only us!”

Eric Gast, CEO/Executive Producer of the Legacy of Hope Foundation, stated “We are truly honored that U2 would show their support with this wonderful gesture and I’m moved that Bono, in his current state, would have the resolve to help support Mr. Mandela’s dream of free and accessible healthcare for the children of Southern Africa.

The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital plans to provide high-quality medical care South African children, regardless of their ability to pay. The hospital is sure to have a profound impact in the region, and it’s great that U2 has decided to contribute!

  1. I do love when a way to get care even when you can’t pay is provided. That is true with anyone, but especially children. Kudos to all involved.
