Yesterday, on the eve of Veteran’s Day, Redbook Magazine co-hosted an event with Business and Professional Women’s (BPW) Foundation for Female Veterans at Women in Military Service for America Memorial (WIMSA) in Arlington, VA, where the First Lady of the United States gave a powerful keynote address to the hundreds of attendees from all over the country. In her remarks, Mrs. Obama shared some advice to the female veterans in the room telling them, “If you want a job, you can’t be modest. You’ve got to show off a little bit. And believe me, you all have so much to show off.”
A follow-up to the Redbook November issue featuring Mrs. Obama on the cover, the day-long event was a first-ever Career Forum designed to help service women veterans tackle the many challenges they face when transitioning to civilian careers; and featured empowering, educational, motivational workshops and panels with participants and speakers including Bobbi Brown, Lisa Axelson (Creative Director Ann Taylor), celebrity stylist and Redbook Team Red Contributor Brad Goreski, Alison Dorsey from LinkedIn and more. Bobbi Brown shared her experience building a brand and following her passion while Lisa Axelson, Brad Goreski and Redbook Market Director Cris Pearlstein hosted a Career Classics Fashion Workshop showcasing versatile wardrobe staples for interviews and the work-week.
