Oh how I adore Demi Lovato. Not only does she have an amazing talent, she has a heart of gold and she’s been through a lot the past few years. And she has always been honest about her personal struggles with depression, eating disorders, self-harm and her time in rehab.
It was back in 2011 that Lovato revealed that she was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and just recently she announced that she will be joining The Mental Health Listening & Engagement Tour to further advocate for mental health support and treatment. The Jed Foundation, which promotes emotional health and preventing suicide, helped launch the tour.
In a PSA for the organization, Demi talks about bipolar disorder.
“Bipolar depression really got my life off track. But today I’m proud to say I am living proof that someone can live, love and be well with bipolar disorder when they get the education, support and treatment they need. I want to shine a light on the people out there who, like me, are learning to live well mental illness by getting the right diagnosis and finding the right treatment plan. I want to be the most informed and powerful advocate I can be and to help people find the courage to seek help.”
You can check Demi out in the PSA below.
Most importantly, if you or someone you know is dealing with depression, you don’t have to go it alone. Find resources, tips, and immediate help at Half of Us, or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK.
I definitely can’t say that I’ve heard a lot of bad things about her. Good for her, speaking out about her issues though. I do admire that.
Its amazing how successful she has become despite (or thanks in part to, perhaps?) her Bipolar DIsorder. Great for her! A role model, at least in that respect.
I just learned who she was today. Turns out she sings one of my favorite songs.
That’s great that Demi’s so open about it and taking action on bringing awareness. It really helps when celebrities do that. Good for her!
That’s nice that she’s so adamant about helping to make a positive difference. Kudos to her!
