Mariah Carey has been working with the Fresh Air Fund for TWO decades and Thursday evening the fashionably late diva was honored for her work with the organization and with Camp Mariah (which is under the umbrella of the Fresh Air Fund, offering a summer vacation and learning program to underprivileged children).
“Thank you so much to all who came to support the Fresh Air Fund benefit on Thursday. We raised over $1.5 million dollars!! FAF – Thank you for honoring me, I’m grateful and looking forward to continuing our work together. Please keep donating @ https://freshairfund.publishpath.com/donate”
“When I first started out with Camp Mariah, I was basically a kid as well,” she said. (chiming in with, “No, for real!” when the crowd laughed). “And I thought, this would be a fun project.”
Carey continued on, explaining how in the two decades that she has been involved with the Fresh Air Fund, the not-for-profit agency which provides free summer experiences for children in New York, has now touched her life in a multitude of ways, creating relationships with campers and board members.
She also expressed her gratitude for the evening’s décor, which of course, was an over-the-top butterfly theme (um hello, MC is THE butterfly queen) in her honor, including light projections and thousands of different decorations of the beautiful butterflies.
“I was involved when we were planning this whole thing,” said celebrity stylist June Ambrose, who herself was involved in the Fresh Air Fund program as a child. “I said, ‘Butterflies? If she could tattoo 20 of them on her a—, she would. This is perfect!’ ”
Mariah did not leave the event early either. She made sure to take photos with fans and guests before she made to her car. And even then she talked with fans through the window of her car and told them to “Never, ever give up on your dreams.”
Love that woman! Congrats MC!
