Haylie Duff Talks Hunger In America

Actress/Author Haylie Duff joined TakePart Live with co-hosts Meghan McCain and special guest-hosts Ahmed Shihab-Eldin and Utkarsh Ambudkar to discuss her Cooking Channel series “The Real Girl’s Kitchen,” prepping healthy meals and the issue of hunger in America.

Her thoughts and advice for tackling the hunger issue in America.
“I wish I had a good answer for it. I don’t think we talk about it enough, I think that we have so much focus on other countries where we have hunger, which obvious that’s devastating as well. Our statistics for hunger in this country are crazy – 50 million Americans are hungry, 1 in 5 or 1 or 6 people are hungry in America.”

Adding, “There are things you can do locally that aren’t that difficult that you can contribute to. When I was growing up one of the things my mom used to do which is so cute and I look at her and I think wow that’s such a good mom thing to do, we would have little parties at the house and put together goodie baskets, with canned foods and things like that. My mom really turned it into almost like a little party for us kids and we would drop them off at food banks or send to the troops.”

  1. I’d totally forgotten about Haylie. But it shocks me that 50 MILLION Americans are hungry. How many are obese? Too much for some and not enough for others. 🙁
