Ellen’s Oscar Selfie Raises $3 Million For Charity!

86th Academy Awards - Audience

Ellen’s Oscar selfie may have broken Twitter and went viral, but it also made some big bucks…like an amazingly HUGE amount of money.

For all of you who didn’t know, Samsung was the official sponsor of the Oscars and it just so happened that Ellen used a Samsung Galaxy Note to snap the photo that included Hollywood stars Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt and more.

Because Ellen decided to “organically incorporate the device into the selfie moment,” they decided to return the favor by donating $1 for every retweet of the photo. The result, 3 million retweets. So that brings the total to a whopping $3 million, which Ellen decided to give half to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and half to the Humane Society of the United States.

About the photo, Ellen said on her show, “You can just see how relaxed and happy everybody is — at the Oscars, which is the most tense, usually the most uptight [event].”

And now that they pretty much generated THREE million for charity, you know they must really be smiling!

SO awesome!
