Demi Lovato Takes Stand Against Lady Gaga’s “Eating Disorder” Art

Recently at SXSW, Lady Gaga performed a set including a performance of “Swine”, which involved vomiting performance artist Millie Brown. Yes, SUCH thing exists. Basically Gaga allowed this artist to stick her fingers down her throat and vomit ON HER during SXSW and then called it art. Vomit equals art? In Gaga’s mind, yes. One person not thrilled about this “so called art” is Demi Lovato. Lovato has been through a lot the past few years and she has been very open about her struggles with self harm and her eating disorder.

And Demi decided not to just sit back and not say anything. She took to Twitter yesterday to criticize Gaga’s performance.

And, of course, Lady Gaga’s fans went on a rampage attacking Demi. But Demi stood her ground. “It’s not “shade” and it’s not “hate”. Someone has to come forward and say it and I’ll take the heat for it.”

She went on to direct a tweet towards Gaga saying, “@ladygaga you’re SO talented. If not one of the most talented in our industry PERIOD. Dope is INCREDIBLE.. but you don’t have to do that.”

Gaga is yet to respond directly to the criticism, but previously said she admired Brown’s “artistic spirit” and “believed in… what [her performance] meant to the song” during her keynote speech at the Texas festival.

What do you think about Gaga’s performance including the vomiting artist?

  1. I get what Demi Lovato is saying but I don’t think Lady Gaga meant it in that way at all, this is just one of those things that needs to be forgotten about!
