It’s not every day you get to raid your favorite celebrity’s closet. But when Free The Children ambassador Demi Lovato recently opened up her closet with a Charity Boutique, fans had a chance to bid on items from Demi’s wardrobe, with 100% of proceeds donated to Free The Children. Run in partnership with eBay’s Giving Works program, the first Charity Boutique raised more than $15,000!
According to the website, “Demi’s generous donation supports our holistic and sustainable development model, Adopt a Village, helping us empower communities to lift themselves out of the cycle of poverty. It’s a cause Demi is passionate about as a Free The Children ambassador. So when it came to her Charity Boutique, Demi decided to make an extra-special contribution.
One of the most revered items up for grabs was an Alexander Wang dress known to Demi’s fans as “The Skyscraper Dress,” well-known as the outfit Demi wore in the video for her hit single Skyscraper. At the end of the auction, Demi decided to buy the dress back herself, donating the final price of $6,100 to Free The Children.
While fans were thrilled at the chance of owning Demi’s outfits, many felt strongly that the dress belonged with Demi—the song Skyscraper represents the singer’s emotional and personal triumph over depression.
The team at Free The Children would like to extend a huge thank you to Demi for this amazing gesture, as well as her continued support of Free The Children, which helps us to change the lives of millions of people overseas.”
