The San Francisco 49’ers are one win away from a trip to the Super Bowl, but last month they made time out for something more important.
The 49’ers teamed up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to host 9-year-old Matthew Marin and his family to the team’s practice facility and Candlestick Park.
Matthew plays middle linebacker for his youth football team in Beaumont, CA. Growing up a faithful 49’ers fan, Matthew’s favorite player on the team is 6-time Pro Bowl linebacker Patrick Willis. On Friday, Dec. 28, Matthew got the chance to meet his favorite player. Matthew arrived at Candlestick Park on game-day and was escorted onto the field for pre-game warm-ups as the team prepared for the game. The Niners defeated the Cardinals 27-13 and with the win clinched the NFC West Division title.
At a young age, Matthew was diagnosed with lymphoid leukemia. Through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Matthew and his family had the opportunity to visit the 49’ers and with the 49’ers partnering with organizations like Make-A-Wish, they can make wonderful children’s dreams come true.
